Xpeng said it will recall 47,490 P7+ sedans produced between August 20, 2024, and April 27, 2025, citing a potential steering system fault.
The recall, which starts September 15, is due to some vehicles experiencing “fluctuating steering sensor signals caused by poor contact in the power steering motor sensor wiring harness,” according to a notice posted on China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) website. The company added that the fault could trigger the steering malfunction warning light and lead to steering assist failure, posing a safety hazard.
Xpeng said it will replace the steering assembly with an improved version free of charge to remove the risk. “Affected vehicles will receive a replacement steering assembly to eliminate the potential safety hazard,” the company said in the SAMR announcement.
The P7+ sedan, a mid-to-large-size model launched on November 7, 2024, has delivered 72,546 units through the end of August, including 4,847 in August alone, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. The model starts at RMB 186,800 ($26,230) and has been a key contributor to Xpeng’s strong sales, accounting for 20.26% of the company’s total deliveries from January through August.
The P7+ measures 5,056 mm in length, 1,937 mm in width, and 1,512 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Unlike previous Xpeng models, it does not include LiDAR sensors, relying instead on a pure vision-based smart driving system similar to Tesla’s approach.
