Xpeng has begun delivering its new Mona L03 sport utility vehicle to customers in China, as the electric vehicle manufacturer accelerates production to meet strong demand following the model’s market launch earlier this month.
The company said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer He Xiaopeng personally handed over keys to some of the first customers, while production facilities are operating at full capacity to increase output.
Deliveries Begin After Strong Launch Demand
The Mona L03 was introduced in China on July 16 with a starting price of 123,800 yuan ($18,200).
The model is offered in both battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, continuing Xpeng’s strategy of providing multiple powertrain options.
According to the company, the vehicle received more than 20,000 confirmed orders within seven minutes of its launch, with total firm orders reaching 46,859 units during the first hour.
The relatively short period between launch and the start of deliveries reflects Xpeng’s efforts to convert customer orders into vehicle sales while minimizing delivery wait times.
Production Increases Amid Supply Constraints
Despite expanding production, supply constraints remain for the new model.
Deutsche Bank said in a research note published on July 21, citing dealer information, that the Mona L03 has accumulated more than 50,000 non-cancellable orders across China. According to the report, more than 40,000 orders were placed for the battery-electric version, while over 10,000 were for the extended-range model.
Current delivery estimates indicate waiting times of between 13 and 17 weeks for the BEV version and between 8 and 12 weeks for the EREV model.
Deutsche Bank said dealers attributed the strong customer response to the vehicle’s lower-than-expected pricing and exterior styling, adding that women account for approximately 70% of total orders.
Xpeng also said recent test-drive activity for the Mona L03 reached the highest level recorded for any of the company’s models at a comparable stage following launch, contributing to record overall showroom traffic across its product lineup.
New Model Expands Technology Offering
The battery-electric Mona L03 is available with CLTC driving range estimates of 525 kilometers and 625 kilometers, while the extended-range version offers a combined driving range of up to 1,380 kilometers.
All variants are equipped with Xpeng’s internally developed Turing AI chips, bringing advanced driver-assistance hardware typically found in higher-priced vehicles to the mass-market segment.
The Mona L03 competes in China’s compact electric SUV market against models including the BYD Yuan Plus and the Leapmotor C10.
However, Deutsche Bank said the popularity of the new SUV has affected demand for Xpeng’s existing Mona M03 sedan. According to the bank’s dealer checks, new orders for the sedan declined by around 40% following the L03’s introduction, reflecting overlap between the two models’ pricing and target customer segments.
