AeroHT, a leading player in the eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) segment, continues to make strides in the aerial mobility space. Today, XPeng’s eVTOL division conducted the first successful flight test of its all-electric X2 “flying car” eVTOL above Guangzhou, China, demonstrating its capabilities for future transport and sightseeing routes.

AeroHT, formerly known as XPeng Huitian, is a subsidiary of XPeng Inc., majority-owned by the company and its founder, He Xiaopeng. With over a decade of operational experience, AeroHT has conducted tens of thousands of safe flights, gathering valuable data to develop safe, electric aircraft for commercial use.

The company is actively developing the X3, an innovative flying car that can drive, park, and take off autonomously. Additionally, XPeng has unveiled an electric vehicle capable of carrying a separate eVTOL in its rear, slated for scaled production in 2025.

The X2 eVTOL, described as a “flying car” despite its lack of wheels, shares design elements with XPeng’s P7 sedan, showcasing AeroHT’s commitment to innovative design and technology integration.

As AeroHT’s fifth-generation eVTOL, the X2 has undergone thousands of test flights since its inaugural flight in June 2021, including a successful public flight in Dubai in fall 2023. In January, XPeng AeroHT announced that the X2 had received a special flight permit from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), marking it as the first human-operated eVTOL to obtain such a permit in China.

Today’s successful flight test over Guangzhou marks a significant milestone for XPeng AeroHT. The X2 eVTOL completed a low-altitude flight from Tiande Center to the Canton Tower, showcasing its potential for urban air mobility (UAM) and sightseeing tours.

The flight aimed to collect data and flight experience for low-altitude urban routes, demonstrating the X2’s versatility for various aerial applications. Following the successful test, XPeng AeroHT expressed confidence that its eVTOL products are ready for use in complex urban environments.

With the X2’s impressive specifications, including a top speed of 130 km/h (~81 mph) and a flight time of 35 minutes on a single charge, AeroHT is poised to revolutionize urban transport. Today’s achievement brings commercial eVTOL operations in China one step closer to reality.
