Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car subsidiary of Xpeng, has recently announced a strategic partnership with Autoliv (NYSE: ALV), a Swedish automotive parts giant, aimed at advancing safety measures in flying car technology.
The partnership, formalized through a strategic cooperation agreement signed on June 3 in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, seeks to leverage Autoliv’s extensive experience as a leading producer of airbags and seatbelts to enhance safety standards in future mobility solutions.
A spokesperson for Autoliv stated, “Our collaboration with Xpeng Aeroht is based on a mutual commitment to the safety of future mobility. Together, we will focus on developing flying car technology and innovative safety solutions for the future of transportation.”
Xpeng Aeroht, known for its pioneering work in the field of flying cars, is dedicated to developing safe electric flying cars for individual users by integrating smart car and modern aviation technologies. The partnership with Autoliv is seen as a strategic move to optimize and enhance Xpeng Aeroht’s supply chain, with a goal of improving the safety of flying cars.
Zhao Deli, founder of Xpeng Aeroht, highlighted the significance of the partnership in raising safety standards, stating, “Through this partnership, we aim to create safer flying cars, ultimately enhancing the future of mobility.”
Mikael Bratt, CEO of Autoliv, expressed the company’s commitment to improving safety in low-altitude travel, stating, “Flying cars represent a new frontier for Autoliv, and we are excited about the potential to contribute to safer mobility through this collaboration.”
Xpeng Aeroht, founded in 2013 and now a majority-owned technology division of Xpeng and its chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, has made notable progress in the development of flying cars. At the Shanghai auto show in April 2021, the company unveiled the X1, a compact flying car capable of vertical takeoff and landing in a parking space.
Since then, the company has announced several new versions of its flying car, including the eVTOL flying car and the modular flying car. The modular flying car consists of a flying car and a parent vehicle that can recharge the flying car, offering a versatile and sustainable mobility solution.
In a significant development, Xpeng Aeroht announced on March 21 that the type certificate application for the modular flying car’s flying body, product code X3-F, was accepted by the Civil Aviation Administration of China Central and Southern Region, marking a significant milestone in its development path.
