Commercial EV manufacturer Xos, Inc. has joined forces with renowned lifestyle vehicle expert Winnebago to further electrify the commercial segment. The partnership has yielded a fully electric chassis designed to support Winnebago’s specialty vehicle division, known for its custom builds of Class C RVs and Class A EV buses for various use cases.

Xos, Inc. ($XOS) is an emerging commercial EV startup based in Southern California, specializing in Class 5 to 8 trucks, electric powertrains, and fleet management software called “Xosphere.” Its EVs have been purchased by last-mile delivery giants like FedEx Ground and Penske, as well as armored EVs for Loomis.

On the other end, Winnebago ($WGO) is a well-known name in recreational and purpose-built vehicles, transitioning toward an all-electric future. The company’s partnership with Xos aims to leverage the latter’s commercial EV hardware and software expertise to enhance its all-electric lineup.

Winnebago’s specialty vehicles division, which has offered EV options since 2018, will benefit from this partnership. The division focuses on Class A custom builds, with over 50 years of operation. Winnebago plans to integrate a specialized chassis using Xos’ SV platform technology, enabling quick scalability and reliable parts access for its custom-built commercial EVs.

Future Winnebago builds using the Xos chassis will also be compatible with Xosphere fleet management software, providing comprehensive customer support and continuous software updates over the air. Dakota Semler, co-founder and CEO of Xos, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating:

“We are thrilled to partner with Winnebago to move the industry forward. This partnership combines the strengths of both companies and positively impacts the communities these vehicles serve.”

Winnebago’s specialty vehicle division outlined several use cases for the new EV chassis, including mobile child advocacy centers, medical and dental clinics, blood donation vehicles, and mobile command vehicles. The chassis will integrate seamlessly with Winnebago’s existing commercial EV shells, available in 33- and 38-foot lengths.

The new Winnebago EV models are estimated to have a range of up to 200 miles on a single charge. Robert Kim, director of Winnebago’s Specialty Vehicles division, highlighted the importance of the partnership:

“We constantly seek new ways to enhance our customers’ mission, and our partnership with Xos is an important next step in our efforts.”
