Pre-orders for Xiaomi’s new Sky Nomad extended-range sport utility vehicle (SUV) lineup may have exceeded 100,000 units, according to estimates published by Chinese financial media outlet Cailian, highlighting strong early demand ahead of the models’ official launch.
The estimate is based on a survey of Xiaomi EV retail stores across several major cities and has not been confirmed by Xiaomi.
Store Survey Points to Strong Demand
Cailian reported that it visited or contacted Xiaomi EV stores in Beijing, Wuhan, Shanghai, Chengdu and other cities over the past week.
According to sales staff interviewed by the publication, most dealerships had received between 200 and 300 intent-deposit orders for the Sky Nomad lineup.
With Xiaomi currently operating 499 vehicle sales stores across China, the report estimated nationwide pre-orders could have already surpassed 100,000 units.
However, the publication noted that the figure is based on a sample of dealerships rather than official company data.
Beijing Leads Early Orders
Demand appeared particularly strong in Beijing.
According to one Xiaomi salesperson, dealerships across the capital received approximately 4,800 intent-deposit orders on August 2, while cumulative reservations across the broader Beijing-Tianjin region had exceeded 30,000 units.
The flagship Sky Nomad N90 has emerged as the more popular model among early buyers.
Sales representatives told Cailian that the seven-seat SUV accounted for the majority of reservations, with one Beijing dealership alone recording more than 300 intent deposits for the Sky Nomad range.
Two Models Scheduled for September Launch
Xiaomi unveiled the Sky Nomad lineup on July 30, opening pre-sales for two extended-range SUV models.
The seven-seat N90 carries a pre-sales price of 299,900 yuan ($44,180), while the five-seat N70 starts at 259,900 yuan.
Both vehicles are built on Xiaomi’s newly developed Kunlun architecture and are scheduled to officially enter the market in September.
Customers currently pay a 1,000-yuan intent deposit to reserve their place in the production queue.
Production Capacity Expanding
According to sales staff, production of the Sky Nomad models has already begun at the second phase of Xiaomi EV’s Beijing manufacturing facility.
Some vehicles are expected to be available for immediate delivery following the official launch, reducing waiting times compared with previous Xiaomi EV launches.
One salesperson told Cailian that Xiaomi’s manufacturing capacity is increasing steadily and that buyers are unlikely to experience the lengthy delivery delays seen following the launch of the YU7.
Targeting the Family SUV Market
Sales representatives also indicated that the N70 is positioned to compete directly with Li Auto’s Li L7, targeting buyers seeking spacious family-oriented SUVs.
The larger N90, meanwhile, is expected to serve customers looking for a premium seven-seat extended-range SUV, reinforcing Xiaomi’s expansion into higher-volume family vehicle segments as competition intensifies in China’s new energy vehicle market.
