Xiaomi has announced that customers who pre-ordered the standard variant of the SU7 electric vehicle (EV) will have the opportunity to make changes to their orders for a limited time. However, these customizations could result in longer wait times for the EV, as the company will recalculate the order delivery time. Currently, delivery times for the standard SKU of the SU7 range between 13-16 weeks.
The reception of the Xiaomi SU7 suggests that Xiaomi is poised to become a prominent name in the EV industry. The EV has reportedly received over 100,000 pre-orders during its initial offering. While Xiaomi plans to start delivering SU7 units to regular customers by the end of this month, it faces a significant backlog.
Potential buyers of the Xiaomi SU7 may have to wait anywhere from 3 months for the standard SU7 to 7 months for the SU7 Max. However, customers willing to wait longer will have the opportunity to customize their already-ordered standard SU7 EVs on April 19th at 9 am China time.
According to reports from Pandaily (via AreanEV), Xiaomi will allow prospective owners of the standard SU7 a 24-hour window to customize their orders from within the Xiaomi Car App. However, customers who modify their orders should expect new SU7 delivery times, potentially longer than the current 3-4 month window.
Extended wait times can lead to lost orders, so it remains to be seen if the features offered by the Xiaomi SU7, such as its impressive range surpassing that of the Tesla Model 3 and full integration with Xiaomi products, will be enough to keep consumers patiently waiting for their cars.
