Xiaomi has announced a significant milestone with its SU7 Ultra prototype achieving a record lap time at Germany’s Nürburgring, just as the production version is poised for unveiling later today.
The prototype completed the challenging track in an impressive 6:46.874, establishing it as the fastest four-door car to conquer the Nürburgring. Xiaomi EV shared the news on Weibo, describing the achievement as “a miracle and a new beginning.”
The SU7 electric sedan, Xiaomi’s inaugural EV model, was launched on March 28, featuring three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max, with starting prices of RMB 215,900 ($30,260), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively. The SU7 Ultra, designed specifically for performance and track capabilities, was unveiled by Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun during his annual speech on July 19.
Powering the SU7 Ultra is Xiaomi’s V8s motor, capable of reaching 27,200 rpm and generating a staggering 1,548 horsepower. The vehicle boasts rapid acceleration, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 5.96 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 350 km/h.
Xiaomi EV had initially booked the Nürburgring for testing on October 9-10, but rain prevented completion of the tests. However, on October 24, Nürburgring management allocated a one-hour testing window for Xiaomi EV on October 28. The SU7 Ultra prototype commenced its lap at 11:50 am local time and completed it at 11:56 am, piloted by British driver David Pittard, the winner of the 2023 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.
Xiaomi is set to unveil the production version of the SU7 Ultra, alongside other products such as the Xiaomi Mi 15 phone, during an event starting at 7 pm Beijing time today. The production model, scheduled for launch in the first half of 2025, will retain the same chassis structure, triple motors, and battery pack as the prototype, though it is expected to be slightly more expensive.
