Chinese heavy equipment maker XCMG has introduced a 70-ton reach stacker aimed at supporting construction of large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, the company said on Friday.
The new XCMG XCS65K reach stacker is designed to handle the weight and complexity of utility-scale storage projects, which involve thousands of tons of batteries. The machine combines precise controls, specialized implements, and a five-layer stacking capability with advanced safety features, the company said.
“The XCMG XCS65K is not just an upgrade; it’s the core driver of efficient delivery in large-scale energy storage projects,” said Miao Fei, Deputy General Manager of XCMG Port Machinery. “With its unparalleled lifting capacity and precision, we’re solving the industry’s most challenging logistics challenges.”
The reach stacker includes a high-precision micro motion system for millimeter-accurate load handling, AI-powered anti-roll technology, 360-degree panoramic imaging, and intelligent braking. These features are designed to enhance safety for operators and workers in complex construction environments.
The XCS65K received Chinese certification in April and is now available for global customers. XCMG said early deployments have already improved operating efficiency and turnaround times in large-scale BESS projects, which are expected to expand rapidly as the global grid incorporates more renewable energy storage.
