SAIC-GM-Wuling said the first mass-produced Wuling BingoEV has rolled off the assembly line at the Tan Chong plant in Malaysia, marking the automaker’s first locally assembled Wuling model in the country and a step forward in its regional integration strategy.

The vehicle began production on Jan. 20, SAIC-GM-Wuling said, describing the milestone as part of its broader “Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand” strategy to strengthen manufacturing and supply chains across Southeast Asia. The company said the move also reflects its long-term commitment to the Malaysian market.

The local assembly program combines SAIC-GM-Wuling’s electric vehicle development capabilities with manufacturing expertise from Tan Chong, enabling the BingoEV to meet international quality standards while adapting to local market requirements. The BingoEV is the first Wuling-branded vehicle to be assembled in Malaysia.

Wuling said the localization effort was supported by early market research and supply chain planning, allowing the company to establish local sourcing for vehicles and key components. The approach is intended to improve delivery efficiency and cost competitiveness, the company added.

The BingoEV is equipped with Wuling’s Shenlian battery system, which the company said is designed to prevent fire in the event of a collision. Battery safety has been a key consideration for EV buyers in the region, according to the automaker.

As a localized export model, the BingoEV has also been optimized for other overseas markets, including Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Latin America and Africa, Wuling said, underscoring its regional and emerging-market focus.
