Qatar, which will host the 2022 World Cup, has just inaugurated the world’s largest electric bus depot. The electrical depot has an area of more than 400,000 square meters consisting of 24 buildings and offers space for 478 electric buses.
The Guinness World of Records recorded the place as the largest electric bus depot in the world. The area can accommodate 478 electric buses.
Chinese manufacturer Yutong received an order for 741 electric buses from Qatar at the end of 2020. The electric buses from Yutong were all delivered by July 2022. Meanwhile, orders appear to have increased, and Yutong is now writing about 888 electric buses at the moment.
Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and public transport provider Mowasalat will authorize Yutong to carry out management and maintenance services of the new depot. Yutong said its international operation and maintenance team would be stationed at the depot to provide full lifecycle management of the electric bus.
The electric bus fleet for Qatar will provide public transportation during the upcoming World Cup this month. All public transport in Qatar will be converted to electric operations by 2030.
