Wing and Walmart Extend Drone Delivery Service to North Richland Hills, Texas

Wing, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet, has teamed up with retail giant Walmart to expand their drone delivery service in the bustling Dallas-Fort Worth area. The collaboration has now taken flight, offering swift and efficient deliveries from two North Richland Hills Walmart Supercenters, further solidifying their commitment to innovation and customer convenience.

This expansion marks the third and fourth stores where Wing and Walmart have jointly launched drone delivery, following a successful initial partnership. Walmart’s ambitious goal to provide drone delivery to 75% of the Dallas-Fort Worth population is steadily coming to fruition with this latest development.

The joint initiative, which enables customers to receive their orders within an impressive 30 minutes, with some items arriving in as little as 10 minutes, underscores Walmart’s commitment to enhancing the shopping experience. This service is in addition to Walmart’s existing express delivery, which promises deliveries within three hours, as well as late-night delivery until 10 p.m., and an innovative in-home option where groceries are delivered directly to a customer’s refrigerator.

The Dallas-Fort Worth region now boasts four Walmart locations offering drone delivery, including 9101 N Tarrant Parkway and 6401 NE Loop 820 in North Richland Hills, 801 W Main St. in Lewisville, and 8555 Preston Road in Frisco. The move underscores Walmart’s strategic approach to leveraging drone technology to enhance its delivery capabilities and cater to the evolving needs of its customers.

This latest development comes on the heels of Walmart’s earlier announcement regarding its partnership with Wing to expand drone delivery services in the Dallas area. In January, Walmart revealed its plans to significantly broaden its drone delivery reach, aiming to offer this service to nearly 75% of residents in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, thereby establishing itself as the leading U.S. retailer in terms of drone delivery coverage.

Walmart’s foray into drone delivery began in 2021 with the launch of its first drone delivery service in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. The retail giant has since been steadily expanding its drone delivery network, with plans to increase the number of stores offering drone-delivered packages to 34 by the end of 2022, reaching an estimated 4 million households across six states.
