Waev has unveiled the GEM eX, a new all-electric utility vehicle that aims to bridge the gap between low-speed street-legal vehicles (LSVs) and full-fledged off-road work machines. Designed for commercial, industrial, and government fleets, the GEM eX is intended for operators who need to move between public roads, job sites, and rugged terrain without emissions or noise.

The GEM eX is DOT street-legal on roads up to 35 mph (56 km/h) and has a top speed of 25 mph (40 km/h). Powered by a 6.5 kW rear-wheel-drive motor and an 8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, the vehicle offers a maximum range of up to 85 miles (137 km). It features hill-hold assist, single-pedal descent control, and a limited-slip differential to improve handling on slopes and uneven terrain.

For utility purposes, the GEM eX includes a 1,250-lb (567-kg) composite dump box, capable of fitting a full-sized pallet, with gas-assist or electric lift options. The towing capacity matches its payload at 1,250 lb. The chassis offers 9.5 inches (24 cm) of ground clearance, 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) of suspension travel, and a 50-degree approach angle, allowing it to tackle both city curbs and rougher worksites.

Safety and convenience features include 3-point seat belts, roof crush protection, a backup camera, and pedestrian noise emitters. Optional hard doors, roll-down windows, and an HVAC system with both heat and air conditioning make it adaptable for year-round operation. The battery is warrantied for seven years and supports 120V, 240V, or J1772 charging, ensuring compatibility with public and private charging setups.

“We field-tested the GEM eX everywhere from Arizona deserts to Minnesota winters,” said Sven Etzelsberger, Waev’s Director of Engineering. “Every piece of customer feedback went back into this vehicle. The result is a work UTV that’s refined, reliable, and ready to go.”

The new model marks another step in the evolution of Waev’s GEM platform, which has grown from a basic people mover into a versatile lineup used for public services, campus transport, and now heavy-duty utility work. Priced at $24,955, the GEM eX targets buyers seeking a clean, quiet, and lower-maintenance alternative to traditional gasoline-powered work vehicles.
