Volvo Trucks France has delivered eleven new electric trucks to transport firm Groupe Malherbe as part of a strategic push to electrify logistics operations supporting its factory and regional supply chains.
The new fleet includes nine Volvo FH Electric tractor units equipped with the Aero package and a 4×2 axle configuration, each powered by a 540 kWh battery and delivering 490 kW output. The remaining two are FL Electric two-axle trucks featuring 376 kWh battery capacity and 165 kW power, according to a French media report.
A portion of the electric trucks will support factory logistics by delivering parts to Volvo’s plant in Blainville-sur-Orne, Normandy, aiding assembly of other electric trucks. Volvo described the initiative as a significant step toward its ambitious goal of electrifying 100% of parts supply to the facility. Other trucks will handle regional freight between Normandy and Brittany for a major food manufacturer. The vehicles are planned for daytime operation with overnight charging.
The procurement follows several trial phases in 2023, which tested real-world goods flows across Normandy and Brittany. All electric vehicles were acquired through Volvo Financial Services Rental, while Volvo Trucks’ partner Autorecharge installed charging infrastructure at seven of Malherbe’s sites.
Laurent d’Arnal, Sales Director of Volvo Trucks France, said, “We are particularly proud to accompany the Malherbe Group, a long-standing customer of Volvo Trucks, in this decisive step towards the electrification of its fleet. The very first electric AERO tractor unit in France was contracted by Malherbe in July 2024. This major order is the result of a long-standing partnership based on trust, performance and shared values around sustainability.”
Alain and Noël Samson, Managing Directors of Groupe Malherbe, highlighted the transformative nature of the shift: “Our profession is changing, the image of the truck is evolving and needs to be modernised. We have chosen to be one of the players and to start this change with our long-standing manufacturer Volvo by taking our customer partners on this exciting adventure.”
Founded in 1953, Groupe Malherbe operates one of France’s largest logistics fleets with approximately 2,300 vehicles. The company services diverse sectors including food, wholesale, energy, civil engineering, and pharmaceuticals.
