Volvo has introduced its latest electric offering, the EM90, designed exclusively for the Chinese market. The premium electric van, based on Geely’s SEA platform, shares similarities with the Zeekr 009, featuring a 200 kW rear engine and a 116 kWh battery providing an impressive range of up to 738 kilometers under the Chinese standard CLTC. A future variant with all-wheel drive is anticipated.

While performance details for the all-wheel-drive version remain unspecified, the rear-wheel-drive variant boasts an acceleration of 8.3 seconds, emphasizing a potential emphasis on passenger comfort over driving performance. Notably, the EM90 stands out at charging stations, requiring just 28 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80 percent, leveraging bidirectional charging capabilities.

Measuring 5.21 meters in length with a 3.21-meter wheelbase, the EM90 prioritizes a spacious interior. Distinctive design elements include the Volvo front end, T-shaped LED lights, and tinted windows from the B-pillar onwards, offering privacy in bustling Chinese megacities. The roof’s appearance of floating is accentuated by black paneling on the B, C, and D pillars.

As a sibling model to the Zeekr 009, the EM90 incorporates numerous features associated with semi-autonomous driving, boasting 30 sensors, including cameras, radar sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and a lidar system, enabling Level 2+ autonomous driving.

Inside, the van minimizes physical buttons, featuring a 14.5-inch touchscreen in the center and a driver display. Additional controls include buttons on the steering wheel, steering column levers, and a small remote control for passengers operating the infotainment system. With a focus on luxury, the six-seater configuration includes individual rear seats with ample upholstery, leg rests, heating, ventilation, cupholders, and folding tables.

While Zeekr offers models beyond China, the EM90 remains exclusive to the Chinese market. Priced at 818,000 yuan (approximately 105,000 euros), the Volvo EM90 is positioned as a premium electric van, combining cutting-edge technology with a focus on passenger comfort for discerning Chinese consumers
