Swedish automaker Volvo Cars said it will expand access to Tesla Supercharger stations for its electric vehicle customers in Europe and selected Asia-Pacific markets as part of efforts to simplify public charging access.
Beginning in the fourth quarter of this year, Volvo drivers in Europe will be able to access more than 20,000 Tesla Supercharger stations through the Volvo Cars application, the company said.
The expansion will cover Tesla charging locations across 29 European countries, including Germany, France, Norway, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Spain.
Volvo Cars also said it plans to transition selected future electric vehicle models in Japan and South Korea to the North American Charging System (NACS), also known as SAE J3400, by 2029.
The move is expected to allow Volvo drivers in those markets to access Tesla’s Supercharger network in the future.
Alejandro Castro Pérez, head of energy solutions at Volvo Cars, said the company is seeking to simplify the public charging experience for electric vehicle owners.
“Volvo drivers already have access to over three million charging points globally through the Volvo app,” Castro Pérez said.
“Adding Tesla Superchargers in Europe means they now have even easier access to one of the most recognised fast charging networks,” he added.
“As we accelerate towards full electrification, our goal is to make charging simple and effortless, through a seamless ecosystem.”
Volvo Cars said electric vehicle owners already have access through its app to around 120,000 charging points in North America, including Tesla Superchargers, as well as more than 1.2 million charging points across Europe.
The company said its broader charging strategy focuses on improving interoperability and standardisation across charging networks to simplify public charging access globally.
Volvo said the announcement applies to fully electric models including the EX30, EX40, EC40, EX60, EX90 and ES90.

But that is only the Superchargers that were already open to all via the Tesla app anyway!
And you would still need a subscription to the Tesla app to get Tesla pricing. ( I say this as a Polestar driver btw…)
