Volkswagen has announced significant upgrades to its ID.3 electric vehicle lineup, including a new model variant and enhancements to software, interior, and charging capabilities.

The latest updates to the ID.3 follow a slight facelift in spring 2023 and are described by Volkswagen as an “extensive upgrade.” One notable change is the introduction of the ID.3 Pro S, which now boasts increased power, up from 150 to 170 kW. This model is standard in the German market, while customers in other markets can opt for a function-on-demand upgrade to achieve the higher power output.

The ID.3 Pro S retains the same 77 kWh battery and the APP310 electric motor, despite the power increase. Efficiency has improved slightly, with the model now achieving 559 WLTP kilometres, compared to 546 kilometres with the facelift a year prior. Additionally, the Pro S can now be charged with up to 175 kW, reducing charging times, particularly in winter.

In terms of interior upgrades, the ID.3 now features a 12.9-inch touchscreen display, running a new menu structure for simplified operation. The gear selector switch has been detached from the display and redesigned as a steering column lever, allowing for a larger touchscreen. The touch slider below the touchscreen is also now illuminated.

New features include the IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration, offering control over vehicle functions and access to online databases. The wellness app, introduced in the ID.7, is now available in the ID.3, providing ambient lighting, sound, and air conditioning settings for different moods.

In terms of assistance systems, the ID.3 now offers enhanced ‘Travel Assist’ with swarm data usage for assisted driving across all speeds and assisted lane changes on the motorway. Park Assist Plus now includes a remote function for remote-controlled parking via a smartphone app.
