Volkswagen has expanded its Golf series with two new variants, both featuring plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology. The new GTE and eHybrid models are equipped with second-generation powertrains, delivering up to 272 horsepower and fast DC charging capabilities. These new models also come standard with Discover Media navigation and Digital Cockpit Pro infotainment features, with optional extras like Lane Assist.
The latest iterations of the Golf series, the GTE and eHybrid, boast Volkswagen’s latest and fastest charging rates, offering up to 11 kilowatts (kW) over AC and up to 50 kW over DC. The new powertrains in the Golf eHybrid and GTE deliver a “system power” of up to 150 kW (204 HP) and 200 kW (272 HP), respectively.
In terms of electric range, Volkswagen estimates that the Golf eHybrid can travel up to 131 kilometers (81 miles) per charge, while the GTE can achieve a range of 143 kilometers (89 miles). When the 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and its tank are utilized, the range can extend to approximately 1,000 kilometers (621 miles).
Despite the impressive features, the new PHEV Golf models come at a premium price. The eHybrid model starts at âŹ44,240 (~$48,000), while the GTE model starts at âŹ46,745 (~$50,800) in the European market.
Both models offer additional perks such as a 12.9-inch touch display, an optional LED VW badge, and new metallic color options including Anemone Blue, Grenadilla Black, and Oyster Silver.
