Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has launched a new plug-in hybrid all-wheel drive system for the Multivan and California models, bringing electric efficiency and off-road traction to these iconic vehicles.
The new hybrid system combines a 1.5 TSI evo2 petrol engine with dual electric motors, offering a total power output of 180 kW (245 PS).
This system provides an electric range of up to 95 kilometers for the Multivan and 91 kilometers for the California, making these vehicles ideal for both everyday electric driving and longer trips.
The hybrid setup includes a high-tech four-cylinder engine, front and rear electric motors, and a new 19.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.
This battery nearly doubles the capacity of the previous Multivan eHybrid, ensuring better electric performance and quicker charging, with options for both AC and DC rapid charging.
The vehicles also feature a new torsion beam rear axle powered by an electric motor, providing exceptional traction for all-wheel drive, whether on snowy roads or rough terrain.
Available now for pre-sale across Europe, the Multivan eHybrid 4MOTION starts at €70,668.15, while the California eHybrid 4MOTION is priced from €77,772.45.
These vehicles offer not only efficient powertrains but also advanced features like electric stationary air conditioning, which cools, ventilates, and heats the vehicle using either the high-voltage battery or shore power.
The Multivan and California eHybrid 4MOTION are expected to provide a blend of comfort, performance, and sustainability, with delivery starting soon from Volkswagen’s Hanover plant.
