VinFast has announced plans to build 150,000 battery-swapping stations for electric two-wheelers across Vietnam by 2028, in a move it says will accelerate the country’s transition to electric mobility.

The Vietnamese carmaker said the rollout will begin in October with the installation of the first 1,000 stations, expanding to 50,000 outlets by the end of this year. “Our network will be many times larger than the number of fossil-fuel stations in the country,” VinFast said, adding that widespread availability would help address charging wait times and encourage petrol scooter owners to switch to electric models.

The company’s battery-swappable scooters will have two compartments for 1.5 kWh batteries. Each battery can provide up to 85 km (53 miles) of range depending on the model, with the option to use two batteries simultaneously for longer trips. VinFast will charge a monthly rental fee of 200,000 dong (€6.55) per battery and a swapping fee of 9,000 dong (€0.29).

VinFast will also launch its first battery-swappable scooter, the Evo Max, in October, priced at 20 million dong (€655). Three additional models—Feliz Max, Verox Max, and Drift Max—will follow later this year with prices ranging from 24.9 million to 39.9 million dong (€815–1,306).

For existing customers whose electric two-wheelers include built-in batteries without swapping capability, VinFast said free charging will be available at all V-Green public charging stations nationwide until May 31, 2027.
