Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast on Wednesday opened its first authorized dealership in California, partnering with Sunroad Automotive Group as part of its efforts to expand across the United States.
The new outlet, VinFast San Diego, offers test drives, sales, leasing, and after-sales services, including maintenance and warranty support. The launch comes as VinFast prioritizes California, the largest EV market in the U.S., to accelerate consumer adoption of its vehicles.
The automaker showcased its VF 8 and VF 9 SUVs at the event, priced from $39,900 and $62,900 respectively. Leasing options start at $279 per month for the VF 8 and $449 per month for the VF 9, with 0% financing available. VinFast vehicles are backed by a 10-year/125,000-mile warranty, with a separate 10-year unlimited mileage battery warranty for non-commercial use.
VinFast transitioned to a franchise dealership model in late 2023 to improve efficiency and leverage local expertise. It now operates nearly 30 authorized dealerships across 14 states, including California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and New York.
Industry executives said the San Diego opening was an important step in VinFast’s strategy. “We’re committed to delivering high-quality vehicles and exceptional experiences, shaping the future of EVs in North America,” said Uri Feldman, President of Sunroad Holding Company.
VinFast, part of Vietnam’s Vingroup JSC, is also pursuing global growth. The company has announced expansion plans in Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and the Middle East, alongside its domestic leadership in Vietnam’s EV market.
