French automotive supplier Valeo and Chinese technology firm PanGood have jointly developed a new axial flux generator aimed at enhancing efficiency and compactness in electric vehicle powertrains, with a particular focus on extended range electric vehicles (EREVs), the companies announced during Auto Shanghai.
The generator, described as a next-generation axial flux system, integrates both motor and inverter into a single lightweight unit. According to Valeo, the system is designed to be versatile enough to support a variety of electric vehicle types while being optimized for EREVs – a segment growing in popularity within the Chinese market.

Valeo claims the generator offers a reduction in size and weight of up to 50% when paired with its high-efficiency inverter and thermal management systems, without compromising power output. The system reportedly achieves up to 97% efficiency across its main operating speed range.
“Axial Flux is a powerful enabler for smart architectures, especially in EREVs, where maximizing electric range while keeping the system lightweight and compact is a key challenge,” said Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo’s Power Division.

PanGood founder Henry Han noted that axial flux motors offer significant technical advantages. “We fully use the benefits of axial flux motors for different powertrain applications, EREV generator is one of the best-fitting application fields,” Han said, emphasizing the potential of the collaboration for broader market applications.
