The 2022 Dakar Rally has reached its conclusion in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on January 14 last. Where, in the last stage, the route was contested between Bisha and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
The podium presentation ceremony was held at the Jeddah Cornish Circuit as well as closing the 14-day series of competitions. A large finish line podium was erected on the field, and all the vehicles that finished the race, including trucks, took to the stage.
The Hino Sugawara Team manned by Racer Teruhito Sugawara, Navigator Hirokazu Somemiya, and Yuji Mochizuki, took the stage in a Hino600 Series rally Dakar truck with a large goldfish ribbon attached to the roof.
Teruhito Sugawara revealed that, “This race is known as the most grueling rally in the world and in a few years only 20.5% of the participants made it to the finish line. Meanwhile Team Hino has completed consecutive rallies since first taking part in 1991.”
Hino Sugawara Team as the only commercial vehicle brand from Japan to take part in the Dakar Rally with the HINO600 Series racing truck. Equipped with a Racing Hybrid System which has a maximum engine power of 789 hp. Where this is the first time Hino Motors has participated in the world’s fiercest rally, relying on hybrid trucks.
“A vehicle equipped with this hybrid system was developed in about two years, and is a project that is supported by many people. I believe that this result will lead to the future,” concluded Teruhito Sugawara.
