Unplugged Performance has introduced a $6,093 Range Booster Package for 2024 and newer Tesla Model 3 vehicles, combining four aerodynamic and chassis upgrades intended to improve driving efficiency.
A 2025 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive fitted with the package averaged 238.9 watt-hours per mile (Wh/mi) during a 2,871-mile journey from Southern California to New York City. The trip was completed using Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, with all charging stops made at Tesla Superchargers, according to the company and the driving team.
The same vehicle averaged 248.4 Wh/mi during an earlier cross-country trip before the upgrades were installed. Unplugged Performance presented the two journeys as a real-world comparison, rather than a controlled test, noting that differences in route, weather and traffic can affect energy consumption.
Four Upgrades Target Aerodynamic Efficiency
The Range Booster Package combines four components that are also available individually: forged wheels, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, a rear diffuser extension and lowering springs.
The package includes:
- 18-inch UP-RW Forged Wheels: Made from 6061-T6 aluminum, each wheel weighs 22.4 pounds and incorporates an aerodynamic disc into its design. Unplugged Performance says development simulations placed the wheel’s aerodynamic performance within 0.010 in drag coefficient (Cd) of Tesla’s 18-inch Photon wheel fitted with its plastic aerodynamic cover. The package uses standard-size Hankook iON EVO AS 235/45R18 tires.
- High Efficiency Carbon Fiber Rear Spoiler: Designed to shape airflow as it leaves the trunk lid.
- Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser Trim Extension: Extends the factory diffuser and adds two central strakes intended to guide airflow through the rear section of the vehicle.
- Moderate Lowering Spring Set: Reduces ride height to help lower aerodynamic drag.
The spoiler and diffuser extension are available in gloss or satin carbon fiber finishes.
Highway Speed and Energy Consumption
Aerodynamic drag becomes increasingly important as vehicle speed rises. Unplugged Performance notes that drag at 80 mph is approximately 50% higher than at 65 mph, making aerodynamic improvements particularly relevant during sustained highway driving.
Reducing speed is a common way to lower an electric vehicle’s energy consumption on long journeys, but it can increase travel time. The company positions its package as an alternative for Model 3 owners seeking to improve efficiency while maintaining their preferred highway speeds.
The actual benefit will depend on driving conditions, vehicle configuration and speed. The company has not provided results from a controlled comparison isolating the contribution of each individual component.
Cross-Country Drive Records 238.9 Wh/mi
The test vehicle belongs to Zack Feldstein, who drove with Dan Burkland and Aaron Shaffer. The team reported an elapsed journey time of 45 hours, 37 minutes and 50.91 seconds, with 23 charging stops.
The route began at the Portofino Inn and Marina in Redondo Beach, California, and finished at Red Ball Garage in New York City. The team selected a southern route because of weather conditions.
During the drive, the team encountered heavy rain, wind, road construction, mountain fog, traffic and toll plazas. The vehicle’s air conditioning remained on, while phones, cameras, laptops and a Starlink Mini were powered using the car.
The team also reported completing the entire journey on Full Self-Driving (Supervised) without disengagements or interventions. According to its account, no one operated the turn signals, accelerator pedal or gear selector during the trip, and no aftermarket hardware or software was used to modify FSD.
Feldstein credited the upgrades with helping reduce the number and duration of charging stops.
The Unplugged Performance Range Booster Package made a massive difference in efficiency, contributing to our new FSD Cannonball Run Record, we cut our needed charging stops and charging time noticeably,
Tesla built an incredible platform and UP helped us improve even further.
The reported results reflect the team’s experience on a single journey. The comparison with the vehicle’s earlier trip does not establish that the package alone caused the difference in energy consumption, since route conditions and other variables were not controlled.
Full Self-Driving (Supervised) also continues to require active driver supervision. The reported absence of interventions during this journey does not mean the vehicle operated autonomously.
Pricing and Compatibility
The Range Booster Package is available for $6,093 and fits Tesla Model 3 vehicles from the 2024 model year onward, including Performance, all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive versions.
It is not compatible with Model 3 vehicles from 2017 to 2023. Unplugged Performance offers worldwide shipping, while customers in the Los Angeles area can arrange installation at the company’s facility in Hawthorne, California.
The package adds to the range of aftermarket options aimed at improving electric vehicle efficiency through aerodynamic and chassis modifications. Its real-world impact will depend on how the upgrades perform across different speeds, routes and driving conditions.
