UK electric vehicle charge point operator Believ has acquired assets from Switch EV, a company specializing in cloud-based charge point management systems. The deal aims to improve Believ’s ability to monitor chargers, predict maintenance needs, and enhance data functionalities such as Plug&Charge and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities.

“Convenience and seamless experience is how we are going to persuade more drivers to make the transition,” said Believ CEO Guy Barlett. “More EV drivers on the road helps us deliver on our mission for cleaner air for all.”

As part of the acquisition, Switch EV founder and CEO Marc Mültin, along with four engineers, have joined Believ’s workforce. Mültin, a co-author of global EV communication standards such as ISO 15118 (Plug&Charge) and OCPP 2.0.1, emphasized the expertise his team brings to the transition. “We bring decades of experience, and being co-authors and trainers of global charging communication standards helps to ensure the very best levels of data communication functionality,” he said.

Switch EV previously developed its platform around these protocols, enabling advanced charging features. The acquisition follows a broader trend in the sector, as less than a year ago, Germany-based EcoG took over Switch EV’s charger operating system Josev, which integrates ISO 15118-2 and ISO 15118-20 features, including bidirectional AC/DC power flow and the Megawatt Charging System (MCS).

Believ’s acquisition is expected to strengthen its charge point operations across the UK, supporting a more robust and seamless charging network for EV drivers.
