Uber has rebranded its eco-friendly ride option from “Uber Green” to “Uber Electric,” marking a new phase in the company’s push toward sustainable mobility. The change, effective globally starting Wednesday, comes alongside new incentives for both riders and drivers as Uber seeks to strengthen its electric vehicle (EV) strategy.
The company said the new name “reflects record EV growth on our platform, making it easier for riders to choose zero-emissions rides.” More than 200,000 electric vehicles now operate across Uber’s global network, with one in four customers reporting that their first EV experience was through the Uber app.

“Uber Electric is more than a new name, it represents the real progress we’ve made toward electrifying our platform globally over the past five years,” said Pradeep Parameswaran, Global Head of Mobility at Uber. “Thousands of drivers are leading the charge, choosing electric and helping cities improve air quality. We’ll keep supporting drivers by removing barriers to EV adoption and working with cities to improve access to charging.”
To encourage wider EV use, Uber is offering riders 20% off (up to $8) their next electric ride using the promo code GOELECTRIC20, valid for one week. The company has also introduced its “Go Electric” grant program, offering eligible drivers up to $4,000 toward the purchase of a new or used EV in select U.S. regions, including California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and New York City.

The initiative follows Uber’s earlier move to make its U.S. Green option fully electric and aligns with its goal of becoming a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2040. The company noted that drivers across the U.S. can still receive $1,000 toward an EV purchase through its partnership with TrueCar, further extending the network of incentives supporting its transition to electric mobility.
