Uber Technologies announced a new partnership with autonomous technology startup Avride to expand its network of self-driving technology partners.
This collaboration comes as Uber seeks to rapidly grow its autonomous services for both food deliveries and robotaxi operations.
The ride-hailing giant recently strengthened its partnerships with Waymo, Alphabet’s robotaxi unit, and formed new alliances with General Motors’ Cruise and Chinese firm WeRide.
The new tie-up with Avride will see Uber Eats begin using sidewalk robots for food deliveries in Austin in the coming weeks, with plans to expand the service to Dallas and Jersey City, New Jersey, by the end of the year. Uber Eats already operates a similar service in Los Angeles with Serve Robotics .
Uber and Avride are also aiming to launch robotaxi services in Dallas next year. Customers using Uber Eats or the ride-hailing app may soon have the option to choose delivery or rides via Avride’s autonomous robots or vehicles.
Avride, based in Austin, Texas, was founded in 2017 and has completed over 200,000 deliveries across five countries. The company was originally part of Yandex’s self-driving group but became independent earlier this year following corporate restructuring.
“We plan to expand the total fleet of Avride robots operating within Uber Eats to hundreds in 2025, followed by the launch of our robotaxi service,” said Dmitry Polishchuk, CEO of Avride.
