Uber has announced a partnership with Lotus to introduce a fleet of the Lotus Eletre Hyper Electric Vehicles (EVs) in London, promoting emissions-free transportation. From now until the end of November, users can book rides in an Eletre by selecting the Uber Green option in their app. Additionally, the rider who saves the most emissions during this period will be awarded free Uber Green rides for ten years.
The Lotus Eletre is an all-electric Hyper SUV that debuted in 2022 after being teased in 2021. Following its launch, Lotus began production and deliveries in China and started taking orders for the Eletre in North America and Europe in April 2023. The automaker has also introduced a luxury “Carbon” variant, part of its transition to an all-electric future focused on high-performance vehicles.
This collaboration aims to enhance the availability of luxury, emissions-free rides for Uber customers in London, where nearly 30% of driver miles are currently all-electric. As part of the promotion, Uber riders will be able to track their zero-emission miles, with the user who accumulates the most by November 30 receiving a decade of complimentary Uber Green rides.
Andrew Brem, General Manager of Uber UK, commented on the partnership, stating, “We are excited to partner with Uber to have a fleet of our all-electric Lotus Eletre available in London via the app for passengers to experience and enjoy. We hope this initiative will not only enhance the riding experience for Uber customers but also contribute to a greener city.”
Since launching in London, Uber claims to have saved around 55,000 tons of carbon emissions in the city. In addition to encouraging zero-emissions travel, Uber Green drivers receive a 10% higher commission compared to UberX drivers, while riders pay the same rate for the opportunity to travel in an electric vehicle.
Residents and visitors in London can utilize the Uber app to book rides in the Lotus Eletre SUVs and participate in the emissions-saving competition through the end of November.
