U Power Limited said it is advancing its battery-swapping operations across Asia, completing initial production of heavy-duty trucks for Thailand while preparing to launch a taxi-focused project in Hong Kong in the second quarter of 2026.
The company said it has completed the first batch of production for an order of 1,000 battery-swapping heavy-duty trucks destined for deployment in Thailand. The milestone marks progress in scaling its UOTTA battery-swapping model for commercial vehicles outside mainland China.
U Power has been developing its battery-swapping technology since 2020 and listed on Nasdaq in 2023. The company said it has since expanded internationally through partnerships, including with SUSCO Public Company Limited and Whale Logistics Group. In 2025, it launched a taxi battery-swapping service in Phuket and introduced its UNEX heavy-duty truck solution in the Thai market.
In Hong Kong, U Power said its taxi battery-swapping project is progressing toward a commercial rollout in the second quarter of 2026. The company began preparations in 2024, including vehicle selection, road testing and regulatory certification with local transport authorities.
U Power said the taxis have now met conditions for on-road operation, while construction of battery-swapping stations is underway. The company previously built what it described as Hong Kong’s first commercially operational demonstration battery-swapping station in June 2025.
“Leveraging our AI-driven energy management system and standardized battery-swapping infrastructure, we are building an ecosystem for a wide range of commercial battery-swapping vehicles and advancing the electrification of commercial transportation,” said Li Jia, Founder and CEO of U Power.
Li said Hong Kong’s high-density transport environment makes battery swapping suitable for taxi fleets, as it reduces reliance on charging infrastructure and minimizes downtime. The company added that its model can help address concerns related to battery degradation, maintenance and range, while integrating with battery financing systems to lower operating costs.
U Power said it is focusing on commercial vehicle applications as it expands internationally, including plans to enter markets in Europe and South America such as Portugal and Peru. The company is targeting taxi and logistics sectors, where compact battery-swapping stations may offer an alternative to conventional charging infrastructure.
Separately, U Power signed a memorandum of understanding in July 2025 with Beijing Foton to jointly develop battery-swapping compatible commercial vehicles, including trucks, vans and buses.
