Last week, an image of what was believed to be a revised version of the Tesla Model 3 made its way around the internet. Now, a reliable source has confirmed that the image is authentic. According to Teslascope on Twitter, the image is a prototype build of the “Project Highland” Model 3. And a trusted source “with some relation” to Tesla has confirmed that the photo is indeed of an actual test vehicle.
The source went on to detail some of the key aesthetic differences between the new Model 3 and the existing version. Notably, the updated Model 3 will feature “Model S style headlights” and no fog lights. The source also confirmed that the Model 3 will be getting new interior seats and that the interior wood will likely be replaced with a cloth accent trim.
We received permission to share this other portion of our conversations regarding @Tesla's Project Highland (Model 3). These are dated March 1st.

As for powertrain upgrades, there is currently no information available. However, it is expected that the new Model 3 will be even more efficient than the current version. Tesla is also focusing heavily on making production as cheap as possible, so the new Model 3 may be slightly less expensive than its predecessor.
Currently, the Model 3 starts at $43,630 after delivery, but the Long Range variant will likely return when the Project Highland Model 3 is launched. The Model 3 has been on sale since 2017 and has sold almost 2 million units to date. Currently, only the RWD and Performance versions of the Model 3 can be ordered in the US.
It’s worth noting that the Model Y, Tesla’s larger twin to the Model 3, is currently outselling it. However, the Model Y will receive a similar facelift to the Model 3. And as is typical with facelifted Teslas, production of the updated models will begin almost immediately after they are revealed. According to reports, that could be as soon as Q3 2023.
