Trafford Council, in collaboration with the charging network Be.EV, has announced an ambitious plan to install a series of cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the Greater Manchester region. This exciting initiative will see the deployment of two dozen state-of-the-art chargers, which are expected to go live throughout Trafford over the course of the summer.
Under this partnership, Be.EV will shoulder the financial responsibility for constructing the new charging stations, with a portion of the profits being contributed to Trafford Council once the facilities are operational. The majority of the planned charging stations are set to be rapid or ultra-rapid capacity chargers, capable of charging a typical battery-electric car to 80% within a remarkably short timeframe of 20 minutes to an hour.
Already, four of these charging hubs have been activated and are ready for public use. The strategic locations chosen for these initial facilities include Balmoral Road, James Street, Regent Road, and Trafford town hall, serving as the vanguard for the forthcoming construction efforts. Trafford Council first initiated its collaboration with Be.EV in 2022, with the aim of devising an electric vehicle charging strategy tailored to the needs of the local community. Since then, a total of 41 charging stations have been installed across the region, accommodating 81 parking bays, and an additional 46 chargers are currently in the planning stage.
“Our ongoing partnership with Trafford will see our reliable network of charging hubs continue to expand, and other councils should be taking note. Without this type of commitment from local authorities, we’ll never see a successful transition to electric vehicles,” stated Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts in driving the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
Councillor Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “This expansion is a key element in our commitment to tackling climate change, as we aim for Trafford to be carbon neutral by 2038.” The installation of these advanced EV chargers aligns with Trafford Council’s broader sustainability goals, demonstrating their dedication to reducing carbon emissions and fostering a greener future for the community.
Just a few months ago, another charging network construction plan was unveiled in Manchester, spearheaded by Apcoa, a company determined to install 500 charging stations across the United Kingdom. The simultaneous progress of these charging infrastructure projects in Manchester signifies the city’s firm resolve to accommodate the growing demands of electric vehicle owners and encourage the transition towards a more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
With the launch of this exciting initiative, Trafford Council and Be.EV are poised to make a substantial impact on the accessibility and convenience of EV charging, promoting a cleaner and greener future for Greater Manchester.
