Japanese automaker Toyota continues its strategic expansion of electric vehicles (EVs) globally, with a particular focus on China. In collaboration with China’s state-owned Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), Toyota recently presented two concept models at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show, offering a glimpse into its dedicated efforts in the region.
One of the showcased models, named “Comfortable Space” in Chinese, made its debut in prototype form, providing a preview of an anticipated production model slated for a 2025 release. Produced through the GAC Toyota joint venture, the electric sedan is poised to be exclusively available in the Chinese market.

Drawing design inspiration from the bZ Sport Crossover Concept, the “Comfortable Space” features a distinctive hammerhead front fascia, interconnected LEDs, and aerodynamic enhancements such as “air curtain” intakes on both front and rear bumpers. The absence of traditional door handles and the utilization of mirror-replacing cameras contribute to its sleek appearance.
According to sources, the electric sedan boasts a length of approximately 5 meters (196.8 inches) and a wheelbase of 3 meters (118.1 inches), positioning it within the competitive landscape of electric sedans in China.
In addition to the sedan, GAC Toyota also presented an electric SUV named “Enjoyable Space” at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Resembling the bZ FlexSpace Concept unveiled earlier in 2023, this family-oriented SUV is expected to enter production in 2024. With a reported length of 4.8 meters (189 inches) and a wheelbase of 2.9 meters (114.2 inches), it competes in size with the Tesla Model Y. The SUV is anticipated to offer both single and dual electric motor configurations, with a starting price of ¥250,000 ($35,000), according to Chinese sources.
