Toyota Motor Corp said all new vehicle sales in Western Europe will be zero-emissions models by 2035.
That’s because the world’s largest automaker adheres to stricter emissions rules in the region, Reuters quoted Reuters on Saturday as saying.
“By 2030, at least half of Toyota’s model mix will be zero emissions, including electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel cell cars,” Toyota said.
Toyota, like other automakers, is releasing a lot of electric cars to meet tougher emissions regulations in key markets like Western Europe.
Unlike some car companies, Toyota is not committed to abandoning gasoline cars altogether, arguing that some regions are not yet ready to switch to EVs or other alternative propulsion technologies.
Toyota said sales of electric vehicles, such as EVs and hybrid cars, would help expand vehicle sales in the region to around 1.3 million units by 2022 from 1.07 million this year.
