Tesla’s Upcoming Model 3 Refresh Rumored to Feature CATL’s New M3P LFP Cells, Promising Extended Range

In recent times, discussions surrounding Tesla’s anticipated refresh of the popular Model 3 electric sedan have garnered significant attention. While much speculation has centered around the vehicle’s design changes, it is widely expected that Tesla will also introduce updates beneath the surface.

Fresh reports emerging from Asia’s tech media outlet, 36kr, now suggest that the revamped Model 3 will be equipped with innovative battery cells. According to the publication, Tesla is set to adopt CATL’s cutting-edge M3P cells to develop a new 66 kWh battery pack. This development is expected to bring substantial improvements in the vehicle’s overall performance and range.

Drawing information from sources familiar with the matter, 36kr states, “36 Krypton learned from a number of people familiar with the matter that Tesla’s domestically-made Model 3 facelift will continue to upgrade the battery pack, especially the power of the basic rear-wheel drive version will be upgraded from 60kWh to 66kWh, using Ningde era M3P new lithium iron phosphate battery.”

CATL’s latest M3P battery cell is believed to enhance the energy density of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology while simultaneously reducing manufacturing costs. This advancement is projected to provide an approximate increase of around 6 kWh in the total energy capacity of Tesla’s battery pack, ultimately translating into an extended driving range for Model 3 owners.
