Tesla’s Giga Nevada has reached a significant milestone by producing its five millionth drive unit. This achievement, highlighted in a recent post on Tesla’s official Tesla Manufacturing account on social media platform X, underscores the facility’s crucial role in Tesla’s operations.
While Giga Nevada does not assemble vehicles, it serves as a vital hub for manufacturing batteries and drive units for Tesla’s best-selling vehicles in the United States, including the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover. The production output from Giga Nevada is integral to the assembly of these vehicles at Tesla’s Fremont Factory.

The recent social media post featured a photo of the Giga Nevada team alongside the drive units, commemorating the milestone. This accomplishment reflects the facility’s continued contribution to Tesla’s production efforts and its commitment to advancing sustainable transportation solutions.
Looking ahead, Tesla has ambitious plans to expand Giga Nevada to accommodate the production of the Tesla Semi, the company’s Class 8 all-electric truck. The Tesla Semi is currently being utilized to transport goods from Giga Nevada to the Fremont Factory, with over 20,000 battery packs already shipped from the facility as of late March 2024.
