Tesla’s Cybertruck has amassed over 2 million reservations ahead of its production launch, based on a recent customer tally. Despite the vehicle’s divisive design, the electric pickup has managed to capture the hearts of many enthusiasts.
Back in 2019, the Cybertruck’s debut was marred by issues, including a failed unbreakable window demonstration. However, it generated substantial attention and, within a week of its unveiling, Tesla had already received more than 250,000 reservations. Typically, reservation numbers tend to dwindle after the initial hype, but this was not the case for the Cybertruck.
Even amid the challenges of the pandemic, insider sources revealed that select Tesla stores were receiving hundreds of Cybertruck reservations each week, and pre-orders were even boosting sales of other Tesla models.
By 2021, a crowdsourced tally of Cybertruck reservations had exceeded 1 million units. Fast forward two years, and this tally, now including over 47,000 self-reported reservations, has surpassed the remarkable milestone of 2 million.
It’s worth noting that Tesla currently requires only a $100 refundable deposit to “reserve” a Cybertruck, making it a relatively low-cost entry point compared to previous Tesla launches. Even with a conservative 20% conversion rate, this would position the Cybertruck as one of the world’s top-selling pickups.
Interestingly, the majority of reservations indicate strong interest in the dual- and tri-motor versions of the electric pickup, showcasing the broad appeal of Tesla’s innovative design.
Remarkably, these reservations are pouring in without potential buyers having full knowledge of the Cybertruck’s final pricing and configurations, details that Tesla has yet to disclose and plans to unveil at an upcoming delivery event.
As anticipation builds, Tesla is expected to announce the commencement date for the eagerly awaited Cybertruck deliveries in the near future.
