Tesla has announced plans to deploy its first V4 Superchargers in China in 2025, marking a significant expansion of its charging network in the country. The company revealed the news through a poster shared on Weibo, outlining its commitment to enhancing the charging experience with the next-generation V4 Superchargers.
The V4 Superchargers, powered by Teslaās latest generation of charging technology, promise to optimize the charging process for both Tesla and third-party electric vehicle (EV) models.
Tesla stated that the new chargers will support an even broader range of models, including future vehicles entering the market. The V4 Superchargers are Tesla’s most powerful and fastest charging units to date, capable of delivering up to 500 kW of charging power.
The first V4 Superchargers were introduced in the US in October 2023. Currently, Tesla operates over 60,000 Superchargers worldwide, with approximately 20%āor more than 11,500ālocated in China. The company began constructing its charging network in China following its market entry in 2013.
Notably, Teslaās Shanghai Supercharger factory, which began operations in 2021, has been key in supporting the rollout of Superchargers in China. The factory, which covers nearly 5,000 square meters, has an initial planned annual capacity of 10,000 chargers, primarily V3 units capable of adding 250 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes of charging.
In a further move to expand its market presence, Tesla opened its Supercharger network to other EV brands in China in 2023, following similar initiatives in more than 10 other countries. Teslaās efforts aim to strengthen its charging infrastructure and support the broader adoption of electric vehicles in China.
