Tesla has reduced the price of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) driver assistant software in the United States from $12,000 to $8,000, as CEO Elon Musk intensifies the company’s focus on self-driving technology.

Musk is banking on self-driving technology to become a lucrative venture for Tesla, which is currently the world’s most valuable automaker. However, despite years of efforts, Tesla has yet to achieve full self-driving capability, facing increasing regulatory and legal scrutiny.

Earlier this month, Musk announced that Tesla would unveil its robotaxis on August 8, following reports that the company had abandoned plans for an inexpensive, mass-market car in favor of robotaxis. According to the Tesla website, customers can now purchase the FSD feature for $8,000 or subscribe for $99 per month. The company also reduced the U.S. monthly subscription price for the feature from $199 and offered every Tesla customer a free month’s subscription to the software.

In addition to adjusting its software pricing, Tesla has been lowering prices on its vehicle lineup in key markets. In response to declining sales and heightened competition in the electric vehicle sector, Tesla slashed prices by nearly $2,000 across its lineup in China, mirroring price cuts in the United States.
