Tesla reported its strongest monthly sales performance of the year in Australia in May, with the Model Y accounting for the majority of deliveries as demand rebounded following a production line switchover earlier this year.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker delivered 3,897 vehicles in May, up 9.3% from the same month last year, according to sales data. The Model Y made up 3,580 of those sales, marking a 122.5% year-on-year increase and the model’s best month since June 2024.
It was also Tesla’s best May in Australia since 2023, when the company sold 4,476 vehicles.
The company’s performance comes after a challenging start to the year, largely due to upgrades at global manufacturing sites. Tesla introduced several updates to the Model Y earlier in 2025, including refreshed front and rear fascias, suspension improvements, and cabin modifications aimed at improving ride comfort.
“When we launched orders back in January, we had an enormous response to the launch edition,” said Thom Drew, Tesla’s Country Manager for Australia, in comments to local automotive publication Drive. “We’ve only just started test drives in the last couple of weeks. The boat’s been slowly making its way around the country. And now we’re seeing that kind of second wave come through, and seeing a lot of interest.”

“I think we had a record test drive week, last week, in our entire history,” he added.
Tesla is aiming to build on this momentum as it prepares for the global unveiling of its highly anticipated Robotaxi platform on June 12.
