Tesla reportedly secured 50,000 orders for the newly refreshed Model Y within 24 hours of its unveiling in China, according to local reports.
The mid-cycle update, introduced last week, includes design changes and spec upgrades, but it has faced mixed reactions compared to the recent Model 3 refresh.
The orders came swiftly after Tesla revealed the updated Model Y, which is expected to begin deliveries in March, although it hasn’t yet launched in Europe or North America.
While the figure represents just over a month’s worth of orders in a single day, the high demand is attributed to anticipation for the refresh, with some customers waiting for nearly a year to place their orders.
Tesla’s Model Y, manufactured in Shanghai, is seeing strong demand in China, where the automaker delivered approximately 480,000 units in 2024, marking a 5% year-over-year increase.
Sources suggest that new orders may not be delivered until April or May, although the Model Y configurator still lists March as the delivery date for new customers. The updated performance version of the Model Y has yet to launch.
