Tesla has increased the price of its premium Model S offerings in the United States, marking the first notable price hike in months. Both the Model S Long Range and the Model S Plaid now cost $5,000 more, but the automaker has introduced a new incentive to sweeten the deal for buyers.
The price of the Model S Long Range now starts at $79,990, while the Model S Plaid begins at $94,990. This adjustment aligns the Model S with the starting price of the Model X and certain trims of the Cybertruck, such as the AWD and Cyberbeast Trimotor non-Foundation Series.
The increase follows a 15% price reduction for the Model S and Model X earlier in 2023. Tesla has made no changes to the vehicle configurations, suggesting the price hike may reflect adjustments for inflation or other market factors. The price change is currently limited to the U.S., but similar adjustments are expected in other markets, including Canada, soon.
In conjunction with the price increase, Tesla is reintroducing its popular Free Lifetime Supercharging program for the Model S, effective for orders placed on or after December 13, 2024. This benefit, valued at approximately $5,000, provides free access to Tesla’s Supercharger network for the vehicle’s lifespan but is non-transferable between owners or vehicles. Buyers will still incur Supercharger idle or congestion fees where applicable.
This promotion could be a strategy to attract buyers considering the higher price tag, though no expiration date for the offer has been announced.
As of now, Tesla has not implemented any changes to the Model X pricing or incentives. However, given Tesla’s tendency to synchronize updates across its premium lineup, prospective Model X buyers should remain alert for potential adjustments in the coming days.
The move signals Tesla’s focus on balancing pricing with value, ensuring its high-end models maintain their appeal amid evolving market conditions.
