In a recent move, electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla has once again increased the price of its popular Wall Connector, marking the second price hike this year. Previously priced at $350, the Wall Connector’s cost was raised to $425 in January 2023. Now, Tesla has raised it by an additional $50, bringing the new price to $475.
Despite the price increase, the Tesla Wall Connector remains one of the more affordable options for home charging solutions. Comparatively, the Ford Connected Charge Station, equipped with the J1772 port, is priced at $800. Another competitor, the Pulsar Plus 48 EV wall box charger, previously reviewed and commended, costs $700. When considering factors such as safety certification, warranty, and similar features among its competitors, the Tesla level two charger continues to be an attractive and reasonably priced choice.
It is worth noting that Tesla had reduced the price of its home charger to $350 last year when it opened up its proprietary North American Charging Standard (NACS) for adoption by other car manufacturers.
Recent announcements by major automobile companies highlight the growing acceptance of the Tesla charging standard. General Motors revealed its plans to adopt the Tesla charging standard from 2024, offering customers an adapter while incorporating built-in NACS ports in future models. Ford made a similar announcement in late May 2023, following Aptera Motors, which was the first to embrace the NACS last year.
Despite the price adjustments, the specifications of the Tesla Wall Connector remain unchanged. The 48-amp unit can provide charging at 11.5 kilowatts, enabling a range increase of up to 44 miles per hour. Noteworthy features include an auto-sensing handle to facilitate charge port access, Wi-Fi connectivity for convenient over-the-air updates, scheduled charging, and data tracking through the Tesla App. Moreover, the Wall Connector supports power sharing with up to six other Wall Connectors, comes with a four-year warranty for residential use, and features a 24-foot cable length, offering users a range of functionalities.
In addition to the Wall Connector, Tesla’s J1772 connector, compatible with most North American electric vehicles, retains its previous price of $550. This connector provides similar specifications to the standard home charger with the NACS port.
With the latest price adjustment, Tesla aims to strike a balance between affordability and the ongoing demand for reliable and efficient charging solutions. The company continues to offer competitive options for EV owners, ensuring convenience and a seamless charging experience.
