Tesla plans to increase production at its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, targeting weekly output of 7,500 Model Y vehicles by October as it expands manufacturing capacity and recruits additional employees.

The production increase will be implemented in two stages, according to Plant Manager Andre Thierig.

Production Ramp-Up

Tesla plans to raise weekly Model Y production from the current 5,000 vehicles to 6,200 units in July before increasing output to 7,500 vehicles per week in October.

To support the expansion, the company intends to recruit an additional 1,000 production employees. According to news agency dpa, around 700 of those positions have already been filled.

The new hiring follows the addition of approximately 1,000 employees announced earlier this year and would increase the vehicle production workforce at the Grünheide plant to around 12,700.

Recovery After Sales Decline

Tesla has produced the Model Y exclusively at its European manufacturing facility since production began in Grünheide in March 2022.

While the Model Y has ranked among the world’s best-selling vehicles in recent years, Tesla experienced weaker sales in 2025, contributing to a temporary reduction of about 1,700 employees from the plant’s 2024 workforce level.

According to Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority, Tesla registered 5,111 new vehicles in Germany during May, representing a 322% increase compared with the same month a year earlier.

Battery Production Expansion

Tesla’s workforce expansion follows the works council elections held in March, after which the company confirmed plans to expand operations at the site.

In May, Tesla announced plans to recruit more than 1,500 employees for a new battery cell manufacturing facility at the Grünheide campus.

According to Plant Manager Andre Thierig, the company plans to invest nearly $250 million in the facility, which is expected to produce up to 18 GWh of 4680-format battery cells annually.
