Tesla has begun accepting direct orders for its Cybertruck “Foundation Series” on its website, allowing buyers to purchase the launch edition of the electric truck without the need for a prior reservation. This limited-edition model will only be available for a few more months, with estimated deliveries scheduled for September and December for the dual-motor AWD and tri-motor Cyberbeast versions, respectively.
The Foundation Series is described by Tesla as a “limited edition Cybertruck, only available for the first year,” according to a pop-up notification on the Cybertruck order configurator.
Following this announcement, some reservation holders have noted the option to request a refund of the $100 deposit initially required to reserve a Cybertruck. However, others argue that those who maintain their reservations may still receive priority when non-Foundation Series configurations are launched.

In recent months, there has been some confusion regarding the production timeline for the Foundation Series, particularly after rumors in May suggested the launch option would soon be discontinued. Tesla Cybertruck Vehicle Program Manager Siddhant Awasthi addressed these claims, stating that Foundation Series Cybertrucks were still being actively produced.
“We’ll end the Foundation Series actually pretty soon and the non-Foundation Series sometime next quarter,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said during the company’s 2024 Annual Shareholder Meeting.
However, after Musk’s statement, Tesla quietly updated its Cybertruck order invites to indicate that the company expects to “deliver only the Foundation Series through late 2024,” citing high demand for the electric vehicle.
Tesla began delivering the Foundation Series Cybertruck following a launch event in November, with broader customer deliveries commencing in the weeks that followed. The company initially launched the order configurator for the Foundation Series Cybertruck in December, though it was initially only available to early reservation holders via an invitation to configure.
