Tesla added a payment feature using Dogecoin for some merchandise on their website. This was also confirmed via a tweet from Elon Musk.
On its online store, Tesla sells the Cyberwhistle for 300 doge ($58), the Giga Texas Belt Buckle for 835 doge ($161) and Cyberquad for Kids for 12,020 doge or $2,320.
In its description, Dogecoin is now the only payment method for purchasing the items as the cash payment option is no longer displayed.
Elon Musk has always been interested in Dogecoin. This can be seen in some of Elon Musk’s previous tweets. Last December, he tweeted that some products in Tesla’s online store could be purchased with Dogecoin.
Following Elon Musk’s Tweet about using Dogecoin on Tesla’s online store, Dogecoin has gained about 14 percent over the past 24 hours.
As of February 2021, Tesla is actually accepting payments using Bitcoin. but the feature was discontinued two months later. Musk cited the environmental impact of Bitcoin as a reason to stop using Bitcoin as a means of payment
Dogecoin is known to use less power to mine. This is because its value is lower than Bitcoin. Musk said last year that he had been working with developer Dogecoin to improve its efficiency to make it more environmentally friendly.
