Tesla Model Y units at the company’s Gigafactory Berlin in Germany were seen today equipped with Hardware 4 (HW4), the company’s newest and most advanced self-driving computer.
First introduced last year, HW4 is designed to enhance Tesla’s vehicles with additional cameras and potential radar systems. This latest self-driving computer processes more data to improve the accuracy and robustness of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite.
HW4 cameras capture images at a resolution of 5 megapixels, a significant upgrade from the 1.2 megapixels of the previous generation. The first vehicles to feature HW4 were the Model X Plaid cars. Recently, HW4 was also found in some Model Y vehicles produced at Tesla’s Fremont Factory in California. Given the widespread use of Tesla’s FSD suite in the U.S. market, this move seemed logical.
Now, it appears Tesla is preparing to equip Model Y vehicles outside of the U.S. with HW4. In January, Tesla China announced that the Model Y would receive HW4 in a series of advertisements posted on Weibo, China’s leading social media platform.
While there has been limited information about FSD for the European market, recent images and videos shared by users on X show Model Y vehicles built at Gigafactory Berlin equipped with HW4. This indicates Tesla might be gearing up for a broader rollout of HW4-equipped vehicles in Europe.

Tesla had previously posted several ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)-related job openings in Europe, with descriptions stating that they would be responsible for identifying improvements and regressions across software iterations.
Although the FSD suite has not been officially launched in Europe, the sighting of HW4-equipped vehicles from Giga Berlin suggests significant developments are underway.
