Electric vehicles (EVs) have gained popularity in recent years as a cleaner and more efficient mode of transportation. The Tesla Model Y is one such EV that has garnered a lot of attention due to its sleek design and advanced features. However, a recent study published by iSeeCars suggests that the Model Y may not be as reliable as its reputation suggests.
The study analyzed data from over 30 million cars sold between 1981 and 2021 and estimated the number of recalls each vehicle model is likely to experience over a 30-year lifespan. The results were surprising, with the Tesla Model Y topping the list as the most recalled vehicle, with an estimated 62.4 recalls. This is more than 15 times the average number of recalls for a vehicle.
The study’s findings may be concerning for Tesla fans who have long touted the brand’s reliability. The Model Y’s high number of expected recalls may be a cause for worry, as frequent recalls could signal underlying quality issues. However, it should be noted that the estimated 30-year lifespan in the study is quite long, and the average owner is unlikely to experience all 62.4 recalls.
In addition to the Model Y, the study also found that the Tesla Model 3, Model S, and Model X were among the most recalled vehicles in the US. On the other hand, the Mercedes CLA, GLA, and GLC were found to be among the least recalled vehicles, along with Toyota.
While electric vehicles like the Tesla Model Y generally require less maintenance than their gasoline-powered counterparts, this study suggests that they may still be prone to safety-related issues. It’s essential for manufacturers to prioritize safety and address any potential defects promptly to ensure customer satisfaction and maintain their reputation.
