Tesla Inc. electric car manufacturer. seeks to establish a state-of-the-art car factory in Canada. So Tesla is lobbying the Government of Ontario to make it happen.

Tesla Canada is working with the government to identify opportunities for industrial facility licensing reform. The filing was amended on July 18, 2022. According to a Reuters report on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, Tesla and the Government of Ontario did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Canadian Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in May that there were very active discussions with a number of companies to develop electric car supply chains in Canada. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company might be able to announce a new electric car factory in Canada by the end of 2022.

If construction of Tesla’s electric car factory in Canada took place, the US company would have 10 to 12 gigafactories worldwide.

Tesla Inc. manufactures electric cars at two auto plants in the United States, one in Germany, and one in China. Tesla is also looking to source materials and auto manufacturers closer to the US to diversify its supply chain and lower its dependence on China.
