Tesla has reached a new production milestone at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, announcing on Friday that the facility has produced its 400,000th vehicle. The figure includes both the Model Y and Cybertruck, with the Model Y making up the majority of output since production began in 2021.
“Congrats to the Giga Texas team on producing their 400,000th vehicle,” the company said in a post on social media platform X, accompanied by celebratory photos taken at the factory. Aerial footage captured earlier in the week by drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer also showed Tesla preparing for the milestone announcement.
Production of the updated Model Y has been accelerating at the Austin site in recent weeks. The company recently discontinued sales of the initial Launch Edition in North America, which featured exclusive design touches and Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability. The new standard version of the refreshed Model Y is now being prioritized in production.
Meanwhile, the Cybertruck continues to be assembled at Giga Texas, following more than a year of production ramp-up after initial trial builds began in late 2023.
Earlier this week, Tesla unveiled a more affordable rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck with an estimated range of 362 miles, adding to the lineup alongside the dual-motor AWD and tri-motor “Cyberbeast” variants.
Tesla is also reported to be preparing production lines at Giga Texas for its upcoming “Cybercab,” a two-seat autonomous vehicle designed without a steering wheel or pedals. The company has said it plans to begin pilot operations of Unsupervised FSD rides in Austin as early as June. Cybercab prototypes have been seen testing around the factory in recent weeks, according to observers.
