Tesla Giga Texas celebrates a milestone of 20.000 units Model Y production

Giga Texas reached a new milestone by producing its 20,000th Model Y earlier this week. Tesla announced on its Twitter account the production milestone by sharing a photo of the 20,000th Model Y surrounded by the employees who helped build it.

Giga Texas officially opened last April 2022. If we count since it was first opened to date, Giga Texas produces an average of 132 cars per day. The figure is relatively low because at the beginning, production was running very low, much different from now.

As of September 17, the Model Y production at Giga Texas has reached 10,000 units, meaning 108 days after it first opened.

Tesla has been able to reduce the number of days it will take to build the next 10,000 Model Y by more than half that number, to just 43 days.

According to Tesla watchers Troy Teslike the Giga Texas is much faster than the Giga Berlin, which is estimated to produce the 20,000th Model Y in 187 days. But slower than the Giga Shanghai, which produced the 20,000th vehicle in about 100 days.

Giga Texas is one of the most important production facilities currently owned by Tesla.

CEO Elon Musk in a Q3 2022 earnings call said that the second generation of manufacturing equipment for the 4680 battery has been set up in Giga Texas. Such manufacturing equipment will increase production of the next generation of vehicles.
